We have been very blessed to have easy kids in the sleep department, and by blessed I don't mean lucky. I am so incredibly protective of my kids sleep because I know how important good consolidated sleep is for growth, development, behavior and health in young children. Jordan and I worked very hard from the beginning at establishing healthy sleep habits for our kids. I have many resources on this very topic but my 2 favorite are "Babywise" and "Healthy Sleep Habits Happy Child".

We have always made sleep a priority in this house and therefore we have reaped the benefits! Both of our kids love their rooms and beds and rarely put up a protest to go to sleep at an early bedtime. Not only is it healthy for them but it is healthy for Jordan and I as a couple, and individually as parents, to have some downtime. I thoroughly enjoy my kids and love playing with them and often look forward to when they will wake up. But in order for me to be a good mom and a good wife, I MUST have some kid free time to decompress during the day and at night before I go to bed.

Hunter will be 3 in less than 3 weeks, which is hard to believe! In the past few months he has started negotiating. We let him take cars to bed with him to play with as he winds down and also when he first wakes up. When he wakes up he is content to stay in his bed until I come get him, wether its 10 minutes or 45 because that is how we have always done it. Recently he has started asking about day vs night and sun vs moon. Jordan taught him that when the sun goes down the moon comes up and it's bedtime and that when the sun comes up the moon goes down and it's time to get up! He uses this to help himself tell time. When I come get him in the morning (usually around 8am) he tells me "mommy the suns up it's time to get up!" likewise at night he sometimes will try to negotiate staying up later to play with us by telling us "nope the sun is still up" even though it's pitch black outside. It's hard to resist that cuteness.

A few nights ago he randomly woke up at midnight, after having been asleep for 4 hours, and started playing in his bed. He hasn't woken in the middle of the night since he was a baby so it was strange. Jordan and I were just about to go to bed when we heard him in his bed talking and playing. I went up to his room, thinking maybe something was wrong, and when I walked in he said "hey mommy, I slept so good"! I said "I know buddy but it's still night time". I opened the curtain and showed him it was still dark outside and it was time to go back to bed. He said "but I slept so good!" I have so done this before....woken up in the middle of the night feeling so well rested that I've gotten up, assuming it was morning, only to find it's still the middle of the night. I am pretty sure that is exactly what happened to Hunter. He was so confused but because it was still dark outside he happily obliged and went back to sleep till morning.

We almost made it to Birmingham (from Dallas) in 1 day but we ended up stopping about 2 hours outside of Birmingham for the night. The kids did great on the trip but since we had a newly potty trained 2 yo and an 8 month old that nurses every 4 hours the trip took an extra 2 hours than we planned with all the extra stops!

Nevertheless, we arrived in one piece after our first extended (more than 5 hours) roadtrip. Jordan stayed out at the hunting land with the guys. Smiley, Considine, and Buck (and a few others) and Nicole and Missy and I stayed at the Smiley's house with the kids.

We had fun just hanging out at the house most of the time but we did venture out to the Children's museum one day.

Hunter LOVES fish tanks. He and Maddie could not be pulled away from this one without a fight!
Maddie played in the baby area while the older kids roamed the museum (we were the only ones there)

Hunter really liked this little apparatus

Justin came home one night for a little bit and all the boys had fun jumping all over and playing with him.
The older boys...Justin (3), Caden (3), Hunter (almost 3)
Everyone asks if these two are twins
Justin really liked Maddie, he was so sweet with her, constantly giving her kisses.

All aboard! Missy taking them for a ride on the ottoman train (Jet, Justin, Caden and Hunter)
It was fun to be able to spend time with them before the offseason began. Jordan had a great time and actually got what he wanted before the week was over so we left a day early! We were ready to get back home after 3 weeks away! We loaded the kids up and got on the road, stopped the night in Atlanta and then drove into Jacksonville the next day.

After the last game we drove up to Dallas and spent around 2 weeks soaking up some family time. We spent a week at each grandparents house so the kiddos could get their fair share of lovin' from each side.

The first week was at my parents. Hunter and Maddie had so much fun with their cousins. This was where Maddie first stood on her own, she always seems to accomplish those kinds of things when she is around older kids...perhaps attempting to be like them?

Tickles from Pop
Hunter loves to wrestles with Pop
and playing cars with Nana
It snowed!
We were not prepared for snow so I had to get creative with Hunter's snow gear. PJ's, my Uggs, Nana's hat and gloves, and Noah's jacket. Hey, whatever works right?! He loved it.

A trip to the grocery store with Nana...moments like this make me wish Nana lived in the same city as us! Wow it makes shopping so much easier with 2 :)
Bath time with the cousins...Maddie was already in bed
ADDICTED to all things electronics these kids....notice Maddie can hold her own.
Her cousins love her
On to Papa and Vivi's for a week....Jordan and Hunter snuggling on the couch

Pillow fight with Vivi (Hunter LOVED this)

AND we met Hailey Benton for the first time!
It was a great trip and always so fun to spend time with our families. After this we loaded up the truck and began our 18 hour trip back to Florida...but first a stop in Alabama for a few days so Jordan could hunt and I could hang out with girlfriends!

Houston weekend

This past weekend the kids and I, and our babysitter Kim, hopped on a plane to Houston to see Jordan's final regular season game. The playoff hopes were still alive. All we had to do was win this game, and have the Colts loose to the Titans, and we would have home field advantage for the playoffs and be division champs! Because of the hype of the game they moved it to the afternoon time slot (3:15pm). We flew in Saturday afternoon and met Dre, who drove in from San Antonio, at our house just before dinner. Our house has been on the market for the past year but with no bites. We took if off the market last week, made some changes and are putting back on the market this weekend with the hopes of selling quickly! It was so nice to be back in our "home" with all of our stuff. I didn't realize how much I miss our stuff until I saw it.

Sunday morning (game day) we rolled out of bed and went over to Brian and Lauren's for breakfast and a play date. Hunter and Sophie had fun playing while Madison spent the morning napping upstairs. Lauren is 38 weeks pregnant with their 2nd, Blake, he is due to arrive any day now! We were so glad to be able to see them and catch up. We miss them!

Lauren is from Indiana so she comes from a huge family of COLTS fans! Sophie was dressed in her Colts attire while our kiddos were all Jags baby!
Hunter and Sophie played with her new dollhouse that she got for Christmas

Meanwhile, Nana, Pop, Beekah and Vivi were on their way down from Dallas. They arrived just before nap time so they were able to get some play time in with the kids before we left for the game.
Hunter loves tackling Pop

Hunter doing what he does best...making Maddie laugh

Beekah working on that "hook em horns" with Hunter. He calls it "cook em corns" and usually give us the bird, instead of the horn.

Group pic before we left for the game (the kids stayed behind with Kim)
We all had to split up for the game since we bought the tickets at the last minute. But we had great seats.

Unfortunately we lost. Such a bummer to finish out the year with no playoff run. We had great seats for some awesome pictures but I totally set my shutter speed too slow so most of them came out blurry...and I failed to check them as I was taking them, so I didn't notice until afterwards. So the only good pics I got where when they were motionless.

However I was able to capture this awesomeness... total domination...LOVE IT!

It was weird to be in the Texans stadium and be on the visiting team.

We were all scattered throughout the stadium during the game in groups of 4's but we met up afterwards for a group picture before we went down to see Jordan.
Final game of the year pic with the Meesters

Such mixed emotions. Ready to have him home for a while but sad to see the season ending without a playoff run.
I love it...always a Posse :-)
Since the season ended in Houston, the kids and I cancelled our return flights to Florida and drove back to Dallas with the family. Jordan went back with the team for exit physicals and then loaded up the truck and drove 17 hours to Dallas. We are gonna hang here for a while and get some family time in and then make our way back to Florida in a few weeks.
The kids did great on the 5 hour trip to Dallas on Monday. They are just excited they get to play with their cousins for a while!
